In Maratea, there is a fisherman who is friends with sharks.

During a fishing trip, Manuel Chiappetta showed what it means to fish with respect: under the watchful eyes of children, he released two stingrays—a protected species that gathers in this area to reproduce—and a small nursehound shark that had ended up in the fisherman’s nets.

The Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, leader of LIFE European Sharks – and Paolo D’Ambrosio and prof Antonio Terlizzi,  is committed to defining management plants for professional fishing in the upcoming Maratea Marine Protected Area, so that good practices such as these become the norm.
